CASA ONline CLASSES

 

This summer we are offering ONLY online classes. All classes are in two-week sessions starting June 22 and will go through August 14. You can sign up for one class or many classes in all of the sessions. We are offering classes for kids in Pre-K to 8th grade. 

Here is a list of all classes we are offering this summer:

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Drawing with Crystal (grades 1-8)
This online drawing class focuses on the basics of drawing with a pencil, eraser, and paper. Crystal will guide campers on how to draw lines, shapes, shadows, values, tones, forms, and perspectives. Campers will enjoy drawing self-portraits and still lifes. They will learn about the lives and works of several artists such as Keith Haring, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, Jen Aranyi, Norman Lewis, Alvin D. Loving. 

The course fee includes supplies provided by CASat Sheridan School. You will be notified when the supplies are available for pick up.

Clay Jewelry with Lindsey (Grades 1-8)
Learn to make beautiful jewelry using clay to create beads and shapes to string together with recycled and unconventional materials.

Yoga and Meditation with Talia (Pre-K and K)
Delve into greater self-expression, body awareness, social skills, positive thinking, and environmental sensitivity through basic yoga poses, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques. This class is open to all skill levels, including beginners new to yoga.

Animation with Ariel (Grades 3 -8)
This class will teach campers how to create different types of animation using different supplies and tools. Have fun in this “animation lab” class!

As Seen On TV – Video class with Devon (Grades 4-8)
In this class, campers will create their own As Seen On TV products to solve “insurmountable” everyday tasks. Working in pairs (using breakout rooms in Zoom), they will do a product writeup, write a script, and shoot their commercial for the world to see their life-changing product. After all, life’s too short to have your arms trapped by a blanket, your paper towels not absorbing enough water, or your duct tape not sealing up leaks.

Watercolor and Glue Painting with Aundrae (Grades K-8)
This class will go over different techniques using watercolor and then glue to create amazing paintings.

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Book Club with Emily (Grades 6-8)
Did you love The Hunger Games? Do you miss Katniss Everdeen? Spend two weeks this summer learning how The Hunger Games all began. Together we will read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the newly-released prequel to The Hunger Games. Prepare for read-aloud classes, book discussions, and activities focused on this story of President Snow as a young man and the beginnings of The Hunger Games.

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Yoga and Meditation with Talia (Grades 1-8)

Painting and Collage with Crystal (Grades 1-8)
This class will explore the mixed media techniques of painting and collage. Campers will learn about the lives and works of several artists such as Jeff Koons, Gustav Klimpt,  Wassily Kandinsky, Wayne Thiebaud, Henri Matisse, Charlie Harper, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alma Thomas, and Kara Walker.

CASA TV – Video class with Devon (Grades 1-5)

Do you aspire to be a reporter? Stay in the know! A virtual TV newsroom is a machine with many moving parts: Anchors, Reporters, Camerapeople, and Photographers. In this class, campers will choose one of these jobs and together write summer camp-related news stories and scripts, and film and photograph their segments or media. All the positions and pieces will come together to form one big informative and fun CASA TV newscast.

Cartooning with Ariel (Grades 2-8)
In this fun class, you will explore how to be a cartoonist while drawing cartoons for work and play. You will be introduced to developing your drawing techniques, deciding on art materials, and preparing your artistic understanding as a cartoonist.

Digital Art with Aundrae (Grades 4-8)
This class is designed to combine art and digital media. Modify photos, create your own designs, and explore all the tools digital art offers to you.

Clay Club with Lindsey (Pre-K and K)
Learn traditional pinch, coil, and slab techniques of hand-building clay to make interesting ceramic treasures.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

3-D Sculpture with Crystal (Grades 1-8)
This class will explore the fundamentals of sculpture including form, content, and technique. Campers will learn about the lives and works of several artists such as Alexander Calder, Louise Bourgeois, Jeff Koons, Claes Oldenburg, and Marcel Duchamp.

The Potters Club with Lindsey (Grades 1-8)
Experiment with clay to create awesome, imaginative works of art. It’s never too early to start thinking about holiday gift-giving!

Movie Magic: Sorcery Behind Special Effects – Video class with Devon (Grades 4-8)
Ever wonder how they made Superman fly? Light up Lightsabers? Or cast spells in Hogwarts? Learn the secrets behind special effects in Hollywood movies and create some of your own! In this class, campers will learn how specific special effects are created and how to pull them off believably. They’ll also get the chance to create their own lighting setup and build a prop of their own, which will have a special effect attached to it. 

Sculpture and 3-D Illusion Art with Aundrae (Grades 4-8)
Campers will learn to use different materials to make unique 3D objects and sculptures. Come and explore a new world of illusion art!

Creative Writing with Emily (Grades 6-8)
Do you dream of being a writer? Do you have a story you’ve been working on? Now is the time to dive into your writing goals. Join a community of writers for fun and feedback. We will spend time at the start of the course setting goals and practicing different writing techniques. Campers will have time to work on drafts, discuss ideas with peers, and receive teacher feedback.  

 

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Recycled Art with Crystal (Grades 1-8)
This class will explore the art of using materials you may already have in your house. Similar to the 3-D Sculpture Class, we will explore the fundamentals of sculpture including form, content, and technique. Studying art with recycled materials is a great way to learn about the human impact we have on our environment. Campers will learn about the lives and works of some environmental artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Long, Chris Jordan, Christo, and Nils Udo. 

Image-based Collage with Lindsey (Grades 1-8)
This class will teach students to use different mediums to create collages that will be transformed into amazing art projects.

Drawing with Aundrae (Grades 4-8)
Campers will build strong drawing skills using a pencil, eraser, and paper starting simple and then learning more sophisticated skills at their own pace.

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Monsters and Magical Beings. The Art of Mythical Creatures: learn, draw, and imagine with Etai (Session II – Grades K-5)
Claws and horns, wings, and beaks – Learn how to draw amazing fantasy creatures!

Printmaking Adventures with Etai (Session I – Grades 3-8)
Learn to create works of art in a fun environment using a variety of printmaking methods. Campers will explore relief and mono-print prints to create art that uses expression, abstraction, and realism. Some prints will be transformed into mixed media.

Food Art: Create a Family Cookbook with Etai (Session III – Grades K-8)
In this class, campers will learn to make their own personalized cookbook where they can keep their family’s favorite recipes and memories. Etai will also share a few favorite recipes.

Games and Storytelling with Aaron (Grades Pre-K to 5)
Campers will join Aaron to play different fun games including charades, Pictionary, trivia, bingo, and more. Each day the class ends with storytelling by Aaron.

 

4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. 

Printmaking Adventures with Etai (Session III – Grades 3-8)

Nature Walk with Aaron  (Grades Pre-K to 5)
Join Aaron in the virtual outdoors where campers will explore the woods, plant and animal life, and birdwatching. Campers will send Aaron on virtual scavenger hunts and more in this fun class. Watch Aaron discover creatures in their habitat. Snakes, frogs, snails, and animal footprints are something to look forward to in this discovery-filled class in the great outdoors.

 

SPANISH

9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.


Spanish Speech and Debate Class with Carlos (Grades 7-8)
This class is designed for students with an intermediate to advanced level in Spanish. Campers will engage in discussions of current events which will lead to preparation for debating in teams.
This is a three-week class, not a two-week session.

Spanish for Beginners with Anna (Grades K-2)
Spanish for Beginners is designed for kids entering K to 2nd grade. It will provide the campers with a general introduction to the Spanish language: sound system, pronunciation, functional vocabulary related to everyday life, and cultural information. This is a three-week class, not a two-week session.

 

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Reading and Writing in Spanish with Carlos (Grades 7-8)
This class is designed for students with an intermediate level in Spanish. Campers will read together, hold discussions, and write about Spanish literature and articles based on student’s interests. This is a three-week class, not a two-week session.
